Our
Charism
Our monastic charism, derived from
the rule of St. Benedict as well as the contemplative spirit of St.
Teresa of Avila, centers on three major principles:
a
contemplative ministry of presence rooted in our own Christian
contemplative prayer;
monastic
hospitality; and
an
apostolic witness to persons and
communities who feel alienated from or outside the usual
service commitment or outreach of the Church.
Each of the components of our charism binds us, individually and corporately,
to a conscious commitment to the healing of memories. We live our beliefs
in the Emmaus monastic community,
which is organized to:
practice contemplative spirituality through
prayer, meditation, and service to others;
encourage contemplative
spirituality by conducting retreats, recollection days,
and seminars which are open to individuals of diverse faiths; and
promote education regarding religious
and social issues.
