Our Community
The Emmaus Community is a canonical community in the Diocese of Grand Rapids, Michigan. It is comprised of vowed and associate members, as well as hundreds of volunteers and donors who hold us up with their hands and hearts.

We are a diverse community: multiracial, multiethnic, intergenerational, ecumenical, and multinational.

Our community constitution describes our unique calling: a contemplative ministry of presence rooted in our own Christian contemplative prayer, monastic hospitality, and an apostolic witness to persons and communities who feel alienated from or outside the usual service commitment or outreach of the Church. Each of the components of our charism binds us, individually and corporately, to a conscious commitment to the healing of memories.

Working, praying, laughing together, we are a vital sign of the possibilities of racial harmony and peace.
